The Society’s Chief Executive, Charles Young, ran in the Great North Run and Great Scottish Run Half Marathons to raise funds for an exciting new project to create a more dementia-friendly environment for the benefit of residents in Bagatelle and Glenfield.
The main aim of the project is to improve the independence and mobility of the residents in both homes through the use of dementia-friendly signage to improve orientation throughout each building, and the use of coloured toilet and bathroom accessories to improve their visibility to those with impaired vision. The inspiration for the project resulted from a recent visit by the Home Managers and senior staff to the Dementia Research Centre at Stirling University.
Charles said he was grateful for the generosity of the many local businesses and individuals who kindly sponsored him. He raised approximately £1200 which was a tremendous contribution towards the cost of the project which is budgeted to cost £15,000.
Charles can be seen proudly wearing his two Great Run medals.
