The Care Inspectorate has a very important statutory role in ensuring that the National Care Standards for Older People in Scotland are being met. It ensures this by inspecting care homes on an annual unannounced basis or more frequently should there be a need. An Inverclyde care home, Glenfield in Bedford Street Greenock, has recently been inspected and has achieved the highest quality grades that can be awarded by the Care Inspectorate for the two Quality Themes that were inspected, namely:
Excellent (Grade 6) for the Quality of Care and Support
Excellent (Grade 6) for the Quality of Management and Leadership
This is a truly outstanding achievement not only for the management and staff of Glenfield but also for the people of Inverclyde, particularly its older citizens, because it demonstrates that they will be well cared for and supported in their time of need.
Carol Chiverton, Home Manager for Glenfield, said “Everyone at Glenfield is extremely proud of their achievement which is a reflection of the dedication and professionalism of all staff working effectively as a team. I would also like to acknowledge the support that staff and residents receive from the volunteer members of the Glenfield House Committee who are all local people and who give freely of their time and expertise. They always add that little bit special to the lives of our residents. The challenge for us now is to focus even more on what is important to each of our residents so that we further enhance the quality of each individual’s life.”
Glenfield care home cares for and supports 36 residents and is operated by Greenock Medical Aid Society which is a local charity founded in 1798. It’s Chief Executive, Charles Young, said “I am very proud of the management and all staff at Glenfield for their wonderful achievement by being awarded Excellent grades. Glenfield, like its sister home at Bagatelle, has a very good reputation in the local community which it works hard to maintain. It frequently receives very favourable feedback from the families and friends of residents. It is now all the more pleasing that Glenfield has received further independent validation of its excellent standard of care and support by none other than the Care Inspectorate.”
